Well, we did it.  On Wednesday, Renee and I kayaked in the Atlantic Ocean!!  It's not at all like our Pacific Ocean.  We were in a protected cove and the water was totally calm.  Naturally we stayed close to shore but it was an awesome experience.  We stayed out for about two hours and circled around a little island called South Twinnie (evidently there was also a North Twinnie about the same size).  It had rained during the night and was really foggy when we got up but we waited until around 10:00 and just went for it.  We went sea kayaking once in Alaska in a fjord with a guide but this was our first solo trip and it was awesome!!

That afternoon, the four of us went to downtown Bar Harbor where there is a walkway to Bar Island which is only accessible 1 1/5 hr. before and after low tide.   We were able to walk about a half mile right out on the ocean floor.  Once you get to the island, you can walk to the top for a birds eye view of Bar Harbor and the whole Mount Desert Island.  Pretty Cool!

While we were there, we came across a group of college students from College of the Atlantic who were swimming about 1/3 mile across the bay as a "right of passage".  Not sure how many made it all the way in that very cold water.  Evidently they had to at least dunk themselves to pass this test.  Crazy to watch.

On our way home, we stopped at local grocery store and bought some fresh Maine lobster which they steamed for us, a loaf of bread, a nice bottle of wine and salad, and WA LA a fabulous dinner!  Prices for lobster, anywhere from $4.99/lb to $8.99/lb.

On Thursday, we just drove around the island to see the other villages and harbors, including Somes Sound and Southwest Harbor.  We walked down a path to take pictures of Bass Harbor Lighthouse.

This morning, Friday, we got a drenching rain just when Dick and Renee had to break down their rig to move on to Boston.  Not fun!   Denny and I decided to stay a couple more days since we have more time to spend on the east coast than they do.  We made more great memories with our buddies and can't wait to hear all about the rest of their journey to Florida and the southern states.  Safe and fun travels, Dick and Renee.
