We're still at Bar Harbor and decided we might as well take our free night since we're not really in any hurry.  On Saturday, I got to do some shopping and in the afternoon, Denny, Booker, and I went to a little fresh water lake here called Echo Lake.  It was calm and inviting so we put the kayak in and off I went.  The water was surprisingly warm.  We are starting to see some color in the trees now.  We're hoping that by the time we get to D.C. we'll see lots.

Today, Sunday, it was a bit drizzly when we got up so we decided to take a drive up the Maine Coast (they call it "Downeast"?) We spent quite a bit of time on the Schoodic Peninsula.  The coast is ruggedly beautiful there with lots of little islands everywhere you look..lighthouses dotting the coastline.  Lots of little fishing villages and harbors full of fishing boats, thousands of lobster traps everywhere.  It looks just like the Maine coast you see in movies.

We stopped at a little place in Birch Harbor for a cup of chowdah  called the Pickled Wrinkle. Great food and the bonus was that we got to see the Packer vs. Bears kickoff!  My seafood chowdah was to die for--full of fresh seafood, including lobster of course,  in a light creamy broth.  Denny had fish and chips made with fresh haddock.  A big thumbs up there.  Needless to say, we cut our drive somewhat short to catch the second half of the game.

Denny has decided he doesn't want to stop in New York City so we have a few extra days to play with.  We plan to stay in Camden Maine tomorrow night, then move down to the Boston area.  After that, Philadelphia, then Washington D.C. on Sep. 23.
